Ezekiel 48: The Lord is there

The final chapter.

In verses 1-7, six tribes are given one portion each of land north of the Temple: Dan, Asher, Naphtali, Manasseh, Ephraim, Reuben, and Judah.

  • Manasseh and Ephraim were Joseph's sons; so there is his double portion.
  • The Ryrie footnote points out that starting in Revelation 7:4, when the 144,000 Jews from the 12 tribes are listed, Dan is not among them.

Verse 8 describes the adjoining space where the sanctuary will be. Then the portion for the sons of Zadok, a most holy place. Then the rest of the Levites will be next to them. None of them can sell or exchange this most holy land. The next space is for common use by the city, including open spaces, and for food production for the day workers.

Verse 21 describes the prince's holy allotment.

Starting in verse 23, He lists the portions for the last 5 tribes: Benjamin, Simeon, Issachar, Zebulun, and Gad—one portion each.

The exits to the city should be through 12 gates names for the sons of Jacob, 3 gates per direction.

  • Levi gets a gate.
  • Joseph only gets one gate.
  • The only way in, even for gentiles, is through one of the 12 tribes of Jacob.
  • Every single Christian is grafted in to this vine.

The city shall be 18,000 cubits round about; and the name of the city from that day shall be, ‘The Lord is there.’” Ezekiel 48:35

What appropriate last words, the Lord is there. That's it. That's all you need to know. Jehovah Shammah

I feel like I should have more to say at the end of this truly remarkable book. I really enjoyed it and am so grateful for all the Lord showed us though Ezekiel.

Come, Lord Jesus, Come.

Amen.

As a bonus, here are the seven Jehovah compound names, per Wiersbe:

  • Jehovah Jireh- the Lord will see to that. (Genesis 22:13-14)
  • Jehovah Rapha- the Lord who heals (Exodus 15:26)
  • Jehovah Shalom- the Lord our peace (Judges 6:24)
  • Jehovah Tsidkenu- the Lord our righteousness (Jeremiah 23:6)
  • Jehovah Shammah-the Lord is there (Ezekiel 48:35)
  • Jehovah Nissi- the Lord our banner (Exodus 17:8-15)
  • Jehovah Ra'ah-the Lord our shepherd (Psalm 23:1)
